Invasion of the Remakes

I watched Invasion Of The Body Snatchers on Sky Cinema tonight. I remember reading a review of Abel Ferrara’s 1993 remake that suggested the movie could be effectively re-made every 20 years or so. It was also remade in 1978, starring Donald Sutherland and Leonard Nimoy, with a nifty cameo from the original star, Kevin McCarthy.

The 1978 and 1993 versions were both produced by Robert H. Solo.

My colleague Mike Small has written an interesting, if biased commentary on seated stadia and Hibernian’s portion of the bid for Euro 2008, over at Hibs.net.

If you think the ‘War on Terrorism’ has been in the media a bit too much lately, you’re in for much worse when Harry Potter lands his broom over the next few weeks.

The transcript of the Campbell vs Paxman interview is available at The Guardian site, if anyone is interested.

Regular users will notice that I’ve reduced the amount of daily blogs that appear on the main homepage of The Copydesk. Mr Tom Hodgkinson is taking a look at my shoddy HTML to see if he can get the index page download time reduced a bit.

Casebook is a reasonably compiled resource on Jack The Ripper, if you’re into that sort of thing, like me.

Campbell vs Paxman. I would have paid good money to see that one, it sounds as though it was excellent. Who is the Prime Minister of Tajikistan??

Sometimes, it’s the very least you can do to have a laugh at what’s going on around us. This little ditty from George Bush and Colin Powell should raise a few smiles.
